Protos Eyewear, San Francisco based startup founded in 2011, has just completed a crowdfunding process that will allow them to produce 3D-printed, custom fitted eyeglasses.

The 3D printing process technology employs a layering technique to build up the frames, is completely waste-free and uses hypoallergenic bioplastics.

The frames will be crafted from a unique, lightweight proprietary material and will be entirely made in the USA.

Sounds pretty cool, but how does the “custom tailored fitting” process work?

You take two pictures with a credit card near your face for scale. From there, Protos’ software algorithm can analyze your face and choose frames that fit your features and your lifestyle.

We can’t wait to try them…
